Who doesn’t like Super Mario? I grew up as a fan and now my oldest daughter has a huge obsession with anything Super Mario and Nintendo. For her 7th birthday, we surprised her with this cute party and she absolutely loved it. Her birthday was actually in November but I never had a chance to post about it since I was trying to get out as many holiday recipes as possible!

I love making my daughter's birthdays extra special but always on a budget! If you would like more tips and ideas check out these posts:

Decorations

My new favorite thing to do when planning a birthday party is check online to see where I can find a party kit instead of buying everything individually which can be pricey. I found this awesome and inexpensive Super Mario Birthday Party Kit for 8 guests which included almost everything I needed like a backdrop, balloons, a banner, table-cover, cups, plates, and napkins. Party City has different kits online for all their themes.

I found the large cutout stars and colorful straws at Dollar Tree.

A great tip that I have when decorating a kid’s birthday party is using their toys! Most likely they’ll have some figurines or stuffed animals of their beloved character and you can use them to decorate your table. I used her Mario Kart cars, Yoshi, and Luigi figures.

Outfit

I love getting my girl's cute outfits to match the theme for the party. I found this adorable dress on Etsy that fits perfectly and is a nice soft material. I paired it with white gloves, a large red bow, and black flats.

Her little sister also needed a little outfit so I bought this cute Luigi onesie for her.

Sweets

For the table I love including themed treats which also serve as part of the decor, I made “chocolate” covered Oreos (I used ALDI’s melting wafers which are vegetarian), “chocolate” covered Luigi Rice Krispies Treats, and fondant covered star sugar cookies.

For the Oreos, I used this chocolate-covered cookie mold which I love because I can add my own decorations on top. I added small stars cut out from yellow fondant and gold pearlized sugar sprinkles.

If you’ve never used fondant before don’t be scared! I haven't used fondant in about a decade (that makes me sound so old 😆), but this fondant was very easy to work with, it's vegan, and also tastes good.

Cupcakes

Instead of making a cake, I decided to go with cupcakes because I couldn’t find a nice and inexpensive cake topper. I found cute Super Mario cupcake toppers which I also used for the Rice Krispies treats. How cute are these balloon candles I found at Dollar Tree!

I made my Vegan Red Velvet Cupcakes which are very simple to make and were perfect for the occasion (recipe below).

Treat Bags

Treat bags are a must for any kid’s birthday party! Since themed treat bags were a bit expensive ($8), I decided to use red paper bags I found at Dollar Tree and taped different themed cutouts that came in the box.

Inside the treat bags, I put tattoos, different toys that came in a Super Mario favor pack from Party City, and of course candy.

I hope you got some great ideas from this post for your next Super Mario birthday party! Feel free to leave me any questions or comments below.
